The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Executive Committee is proud to announce that Coca-Coca Turkmenistan and LGI are the first international official supporters of Ashgabat 2017.

Arslanbek Achilov secured Turkmenistan’s second gold medal at the 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games on the final day of the Boxing tournament on Thursday. The 23-year-old Olympian beat home favourite Rauf Rahimov (AZE) in the -81kg category final at Baku’s Crystal Hall to lead the Turkmen medal chase for the day.

Volunteers are the difference between a good and a great Games and this was very evident at our recent Inspiring Ashgabat events in April. More than 1200 students volunteered across eight days of competition and were committed to their volunteering tasks as showing high performance was their main goal.

The Ashgabat 2017 Mascot is called Wepaly – meaning loyal friend in Turkmen. He is an alabai, a traditional Turkmen dog which is renowned as a beautiful and courageous animal, that for many centuries has helped Turkmen shepherds to safeguard flocks of cattle in heavy conditions of sandy desert. Today the Alabai is treasured by the Turkmen people not only as courageous protector but also as a loyal friend.

Turkmenistan marked Nowruz Bayram with colorful celebrations. The main festivities took place at the foothills valley near Ashgabat, which is called Nowruz Ýaýlasy (Nowruz valley) by the resolution of the President of Turkmenistan. There was temporarily set up a Turkmen village with yurts with carpeted flooring, farmsteads with pets, smoking cauldrons, craft workshops and the traditional oriental bazaar with stalls and brisk salesmen.

In preparation for the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the national cycling team of Turkmenistan held training camp in the United Arab Emirates.

National Ice Hockey Team returned from international training camp held in “Raubichi” Olympic Sport Complex in Minsk (Belarus). Our players held two friendly matches with local clubs, having confidently won both of them.

In the international basketball tournament in the 3х3 format that was held in the city of Eindhoven (Holland), the national female team of Turkmenistan won gold medals, and the male team – silver.

On the way towards the final and the highest award, the Turkmen female team deactivated five teams of different countries. In the decisive duel, the winners met with the host team – «Pendragodinnen» Club, and won 15:10 victory.

Winners of international basketball tournament in 3X3 format, held in the Complex of Games Sports of the Olympic complex of Ashgabat, were defined. Our athletes won gold and silver medals in men competitions as well as highest prizes in women group.

Turkmenistan is the first country in Central Asia to receive the right to host the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which has quickly become a landmark event in the life of the country. The infrastructure of the Ashgabat Olympic Complex is formed around the existing Olympic stadium, in a central area of the capital, ensuring easy access to all facilities of the complex.
