Alabai are very hardy, self-confident and fearless dog with a strong protective instinct. On the territory of Turkmenistan Alabai were withdrawn about 4000 years ago, since then they have become loyal allies of the Turkmen, protecting flocks and herds of animals from raids of predators. In view of its strong defensive instincts, Alabai is very wary of strangers.

Ashgabat is the capital of Turkmenistan and the largest administrative, political, transport, trade, scientific and cultural center of the country.

The city’s name comes from the words “Ashk” – love and “abad”- city, giving it the name “city of love”.

The national museum of wildlife in Ashgabat was built in 2010 near the capital of Turkmenistan. The zoo occupies a substantial territory of 40 hectares, so as location were chosed the beautiful foothills of the Kopetdag mountains.

This unique breed is not less than five thousand years old. The Akhal-Teke is a direct descendant of the horses of the Massagetae, the Bactrians and the Alans which were famous in antiquity. In ancient Persia these horses were known as Nisaean and several centuries later – as Parthian, but they were always spoken of as the best in the world. In the second century B.C. the Roman historian Oppian wrote of them: “These horses, worthy of the most powerful rulers, are strikingly beautiful in appearance, they move lightly under the rider and lightly accept the bit; the head with its Roman nose is carried high and their golden manes flow majestically in the wind.”

With bands of pink, red and yellow rock searing across the sides of steep canyon walls, Yangykala is a breathtaking sight and one of the most spectacular natural attractions in Turkmenistan. Just as alluring as the beautiful views is its solitary isolation in the desert; few Turkmen are aware of its existence. ᠎It’s possible to camp on the plateau above the canyon, although it can get windy there.

Traveler, who visits Dehistan, gains indelible impressions as if he appeared in something like fantastic planet, where whole space nearly up to horizon is studded with terra-cotta remains – evidences of centuries-old human labor. It is difficult here to use the archeological term – ancient settlement. Dehistan is whole world, manmade country of disappearing shadows, imperishable monument to human genius, persistence, enthusiastic and artistic attitude to life.

The mausoleum is a part of the memorial complex consisting of a mosque and a tomb. As a matter of fact they are several buildings constructed in various periods. They stay so closely to each other that it is difficult to imagine the original shape of the structure.

Koyten Dag Nature Reserve was created to protect the largest remaining Ibex populations in Central Asia. These long-horned mountains goats, as well as a significant number of Urials (Ovis ammon vignei), an endangered mountain sheep species, inhabit the steep canyons and flower covered valleys of the low ridges of the Koyten Dag Mountains, leading to Turkmenistan’s tallest peak, Ayrybaba (3,137m).

Not far from Dashoguz city, 25 km to the south-west, in a desert there are ruins of ancient fortress city Izmukshir (Zamakshar), surfaced with sands. The fortress ruins are located in the territory of the historical and cultural reserve museum Kunya-Urgench, the ancient capital of Khorezmshah’s State.
